Message from the 26th Head Priest of HBS, Nichiryo Takasu

I would like to send words of encouragement to HBS members all over the world who encounter various hardships due to the pandemic outbreak of new coronavirus.
My heart really aches for the large number of patients and deaths of this virus infection.
I would like, to express my deepest condolences to those who lost precious lives in this disaster, and to express my sympathies to all bereaved families and patients, whilst I pray for end of coronavirus outbreak.
Further, I appreciate the endeavors of personnel who devote themselves to the treatments and prevention of the virus infection, facing immense hardships.
The virus has been quickly spread around the world by now. Therefore, as the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced, our society has fallen into “the decisive global health crisis of the modern times”.
The number of people with this infectious disease has spread worldwide, and they have been isolated in facilities and hospitals where access is severely restricted.
The number of deaths has also increased rapidly. Borders have been closed, schools and companies have been shut down, as each Government has taken measures to counter the virus. We are overwhelmed by this miserable situation. It has a major impact on the Economy and Social activities throughout the world as well as Japan. Uncertain information causes uneasiness among people.
I learned that, not only Japan but also the situation in overseas parishes are so serious according to the reports which were forwarded to me by Propagations Division at the Headquarter of HBS.
You can read these reports and messages from overseas parishes such as Italy, Brazil, Sri Lanka and India on HBS Website. I am delighted to witness their passion for service and their strong leadership.
Although the new coronavirus is a serious threat to society, we should never stop our service. If we stop it, HBS would become impoverished.
Now is the time for all HBS members to find our service to be improved and to create a strong sect in an emergency. Moreover, we shall aim to be in “Itai-doushin”, uniting our hearts, and pray for the end of Coronavirus outbreak, world peace through propagation of the true teachings of Buddha, throughout the world. I also pray and chant Odaimoku with HBS members in front of the Gohonzon of the Yuseiji, the Head Temple of HBS.
Let's overcome this hardship together with the power of the Buddha.

No meritorious benefits shall reach us otherwise.)
